Updating a bedroom can be as simple as getting new bedding and decluttering your nightstands!
I think one of the main goals we all set for ourselves at the start of a new year is to be more organized. With that comes decluttering, and with decluttering comes a general freshening up of the spaces in your home.

This year I’m starting with my bedroom and giving it a much needed update, but on a budget with a focus on decluttering the space and bringing in color.

My bedroom was starting to feel a little “blah.” In the middle of winter, the gray comforter was starting to feel a little drab. I need some color in this space!

The nightstands were also starting to collect everything. They were basically acting as a deposit for anything and everything. The need for decluttering was strong!

A quick trip to Old Time Pottery helped me find everything I needed to really freshen up this space!

Whomever came up with the idea for a “bed in a bag” was an absolute genius! It’s such an affordable way to to create new custom bedding with everything included! Most beds in a bag come with a comforter, shams, and accent pillows. Some even come with a matching bed skirt. And Old Time Pottery has a TON to choose from!

Since I already have some established bedding and accent pillows, I opted for a set that simply came with a new comforter and pillow shams. I could not resist this brilliant turquoise comforter and it’s gorgeous eyelet lace pattern!

You can see I matched the bedding up with a new accent pillow and matching throw.

Instead of new sheets, I simply purchased a pair of new pillowcases that matched the bedding. Since the new comforter is solid, the patterned pillowcases help add contrast.

I completely cleared off our nightstands, gave them a good dusting, and started over. Less is more! I kept the lamps and a framed photo, as well as some cute Lego people our boys made for us. I added new matching turquoise votives and pretty faux flowers.

If you need to keep a lot of items on your nightstand or your nightstand doesn’t have a lot of storage, you can find a number of decorative boxes in all shapes and sizes at Old Time Pottery to add storage while keeping things uncluttered.

Walking into my bedroom now is like breathing fresher air! I’m loving all the color and how tidy the nightstands now look. Keeping the nightstands clear will be the biggest challenge.

To recap, the new items in this space are: a comforter with matching shams, pillowcases, single accent pillow, throw blanket, 2 votives, and faux flowers.
