Memorial Day is coming upon us. And in honor of those who fought and died for the freedoms we have in our country, I thought it was only fitting to create a memorial day candle. Not only that, I made two. These are great because they not only are patriotic, but they can be lit in rememberance, and therefore have a lot of meaning.

Both of these candles are super easy to make and are just really fun at the same time!

Display your patriotism this Memorial Day!

Ribbon of Memories

Combine a fabulous candle with an elegant candle holder from Old Time Pottery. For this candle, I used a cherry red candle and a deep, blue. Then, cut about 3-5 inch strips of ribbons and cut a “v” on each end. My candle holder had a spike in the center to anchor the candle, which worked great to anchor the ribbons as well. I simply poked a hold in the ribbon and secured it over the spike. I chose three different patterns of ribbons and alternated them to provide some visual interest. It’s just the right touch to bring patriotic memories to your home this Memorial Day!

Beads of Strength:

The second candle I made involved a large glass hurricane votive to protect how the flame blew, a wide blue candle, and a ton of red and white pony beads from the craft store! The premise was basic: showcase the good ole’ red, white, and blue by sprinkling the pony beads around the space between the candle and the glass. You could sprinkle all sorts of things like marbles, candies, or confetti. The pony beads worked really well because they let some hints of blue peek through the centers.
