Make this dry erase board lap desk for your kids for back to school or anytime of the year. This fun project is perfect to help get them motivated to do their homework this fall. You might even make a few because you are going to want one for yourself as well!
Supplies needed to make your own dry erase board lap desk:
- Dry erase board
- Pillows to fit size of dry erase board
- Rope trim
- Staple gun and staples
I picked up the supplies for this dry erase board lap desk at Old Time Pottery. They actually have fabric by the yard but I used a gorgeous dish towel for the fabric instead. I sorted through the wide selection of pillows until I found two that would be approximately the size of the dry erase board when put together.
I started by finding the center of the side of the dry erase board as well as the towel. I put staples into the towel and onto the back of the dry erase board starting in the center. Add the staples on both long sides. The towel was the perfect width so I did not have to trim at all before completing these steps. If you cannot find a towel you love, put a pillow inside of the fabric to measure then just fold your fabric along the side so you don’t have a raw edge. Slip the pillows inside the pocket you just created once staples have been placed in both long sides.
Come to one of the short sides and pull the fabric tight. Fold under to create a finished edge and add a staple in the center. Repeat on the opposite end. Continue using staples until you come to the corners. Work with the fabric to create a nice corner and add staples to secure.
Go around the entire edge with some rope trim and glue to cover up the staples. Allow to dry completely before using your dry erase board lap desk.
This fun project is perfect for kids of all ages. It will allow you to color, do homework or even work on your computer anywhere in your home or on the go.
This is also a project that is perfect for new college students. The surface is also a dry erase board remember so you can add your notes right to the top while working.
Add this dry erase board lap desk to your to do list this fall. A great idea for back to school or anytime of the year. It is a super easy DIY project as well!
