Staycation Family Fun Basket - what to pack for a fun time at home! With summer rapidly coming to an end and a new school year around the corner, you may be looking to have one last family hurrah. But if the summer funds are dwindling, think about taking a fun family staycation! Staycations have become very popular in recent years. It’s a great way to save money, explore your own hometown, and spend time together as a family.

You can even create a family fun basket crammed full of things to do without even leaving the house and shop your own home for the supplies.

Staycation Family Fun Basket - what to pack for a fun time at home!To get this staycation basket started I snagged a large plastic bin at Old Time Pottery. They have all shapes and sizes and all for great prices. I snagged a few new items I found at Old Time Pottery such as activity books, notebooks for doodling, books, and a couple of fun new drinking cups just to peak some fresh interest. I also got a new blanket to spread out in the house to create an “island” of sorts for our new adventures to occur on. Finally, I purchased some adhesive-backed chalkboard vinyl to create a label for the bin (also found at Old Time Pottery).

Staycation Family Fun Basket - what to pack for a fun time at home!Fill the bin with the new items then simply shop your house for fun activities to add. We have a LOT of games, puzzles, and books. So many that we forget half of what we have. Now is a great time to pull those out and renew interest in them. Each night after kids go to bed you can refill the basket with new items from around the house. It will become a fun game for the kids to wake up and find out what’s in store for that day’s staycation activities!

Just remember, the purpose of a staycation is to take a vacation at home so just be sure everyone unplugs and has fun. Forget the chores, keep dinner simple, and spend some time together.
