The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorite movies. Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Glinda and the Wicked Witch. Who can forget? We become attached to all the characters in the film. (Well most of them anyway).

These characters also make the best costumes for Halloween.  I wanted to take a little bit further with this original idea! Now is the time to head to Old Time Pottery to get your fall and Halloween supplies.

With the help of Old Time Pottery, I found some inexpensive supplies and made a Halloween Tin Man candy dispenser! This is better than the typical bowl. This is interactive!
I started with a trash can, floral pick, mesh bowl, candy and paint.

Old Time Pottery carries all these supplies above including the candy!
I sprayed the floral pick with a silver metallic.

This will become the hat.
I used a spool from a ribbon container sprayed with metallic paint and hot glued it to the trash can to make a nose.

This will make it easy for you to paint a face. I used a chalk based paint and hand painted the front of the can. You don’t have to do anything fancy. Just follow what I did! Make eyes, eyebrows and mouth. The most important thing is that the foot pedal becomes part of the mouth or chin.

I used E600 to glue the “hat” to the top of can.

The pedal gets stepped on to open it. Making this the interactive part!
I used a mesh bowl that fits inside the trash can because I didn’t have a ton of candy to fill it up. This is enough for what I will need it for. It is nice to know that there is room to expand though.

Add candy!!

Now you have an adorable addition to your front porch or hallway. The Kids are gonna love it too! After you give out your candy, fill it with your own and bring it inside to enjoy the rest of the season.
