This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day and the memory of those we have lost at war. We celebrate what it is to be an American! We reflect on what it means to be free. We hang the flag, have picnics and spend time with family.

I have always admired the patriotic buntings that hang on porches and white picket fences in small town USA. It brings back memories of my childhood celebrating with parades and sparklers!

This house I wanted to decorate is in the historic part of town so I felt this was fitting. I also think it would be a great decoration on any porch, gazebo, fence, etc. So I went shopping at Old Time Pottery because I knew they had everything I needed for the holiday.

Did you know that Old Time Pottery carries fabric? I actually got lucky and found several yards of a red vinyl but you could easily get one of Old Time Pottery’s red vinyl tablecloths to do the same. They sell material for 5.99 a yard. What a bargain!

This had the weight I needed and being vinyl the rain would bounce right off of it. I folded the material to the measurements I needed and used chalk and a string to create a semi-circle.

Cut around chalk line.

You will now have a semi-circle and you can begin to make more arches with chalk. The blue was 12″ then 3″ for white and red stripes always ending in red. Don’t worry. It doesn’t have to be perfect! This is easy and takes little time to do. I used chalk paint to paint on the vinyl.

You start seeing it come to life.

After you do the white stripes, (I did three), use a stencil or cut a star from paper and paint in a random pattern.

That’s all you have to do! Then hang!

The decorating didn’t stop there. You can get so many great decorations at Old Time Pottery. I found this tin star for my door for $12.99. I just loved it for this wreath.

I can almost always find what I need at Old Time Pottery, if I can’t, I know they will have something I can buy and transform into something great. I love the way the porch turned out.

Hope this gets you in the spirit of the holiday! This is my way to show how proud I am to be an American and how thankful I am for our troops who fight for us all to be free.

Thanks Old Time Pottery for helping me show my support.
