Are you gearing up for the 4th of July? Around our house we love to show our patriotism all summer long, from Memorial Day through Labor Day! Showing off your red, white, and blue doesn’t have to be saved for just one day in July. I’m sharing a fun patriotic project today that you can use all summer long!

While you are toting around your gear for picnics and parties this weekend, why not do it in patriotic style?

You have plenty of time to whip up this patriotic tote. And you won’t even believe how simple it is to create!

Not to mention it can be made from anywhere from $5 to $15. Not bad, right?

Grab your supplies from Old Time Pottery. You need a plain burlap tote bag (added bonus for this project – the straps are lined with red fabric!), a patriotic outdoor bow, and patriotic ribbon (optional).

The tote bag is $2.49 and the bow is $1.49. Making this project a whopping $4!!

I splurged and added some fun patriotic ribbon to the project, but you certainly would not have to. Let me show you how I incorporated the ribbon.

The patriotic bow is held together in the center with a twist tie. Once undone, you will see that the bow is in 3 pieces. Remove the middle piece. Use it as a template to recreate a new bow piece with the patriotic ribbon. Overlap the ends of the ribbon and glue together. Replace the center bow piece with the new patriotic ribbon bow piece. Tighten the middle together once again with the twist tie.

Take a small piece of the ribbon and fold the sides under so that it will wrap evenly around the center of the bow. Glue the ends together at the back of the bow.

Glue a pin back to the back of the bow. Cut a small rectangle of ribbon and glue it over the pin back to help disguise it and hold it in place.

Once the glue is dry, pin the ribbon to the tote bag. Trim the ends.

That’s it!

To keep cost down, cut out the extra patriotic ribbon steps and glue the pin back directly to the patriotic bow. Not only will it keep the cost at ~$4, but you will be able to make the project in minutes!

Also, since the bow is only pinned to the tote bag, you can change it out so that you can have a different theme all year round!

Be sure to see how else I used this fun patriotic ribbon to decorate a mason jar to hold my patriotic popcorn!
