In reality, animal prints are nothing new. They’ve been a mainstay in the world of interior design for years now; the only thing that is new now is subtlety. In the 70s and 80s, people were a little to bold with their animal prints with leopard print carpet, wallpaper, sofas, etc.

But in 2013, people are taking a more tame (pun definitely intended) approach to animal prints by using them as accents that create drama and leave an exclamation point in a room. Animal print’s versatility and classic styling fit perfectly into almost any room and the important thing to remember is that a little goes a long way. When done right, it will add modern appeal to any room in your home. Below are some easy and inexpensive examples of what we’re talking about.

  1. Accent Pillows

As we’ve previously discussed, accent pillows are a cheap and effective way to update your home. The same holds true with incorporating animal prints into your home. Add a pillow here or there in a fairly conservative room and BOOM! Just like that you have added a modern touch to your room by changing the focal point of the room to the pillow(s).
  2. Rugs

Lay an animal print rug down and watch the entire mood of your room change! These rugs will fit well in just about any room and go a long way to making the space of your room interesting. The bigger the contrast in style and color from the room to the rug, the bigger the effect.
  3. Chairs

Last but not least, another great way to incorporate animal prints into your home is via chairs. And I know what you’re thinking, chairs can be expensive. And you’re right, but you can also get the same effect by upholstering your chairs or chair cushions with animal print fabrics. If done right, an animal print chair will add a nice modern exclamation point to any room!

We hope you enjoyed this little tutorial on how to get the most out of animal prints! Remember to be creative and experiment to find the way animal prints work best for you and your home. Creativity is your best friend! Until next time.
