The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that great holiday inspiration would be there! The holidays are fast approaching and if you’re anything like me, you know that if you don’t start thinking about your holiday decorating plans, Christmas will be here and gone before you can blink! That’s why I like to start looking for inspiration for my holiday decor right about now – and a huge part of my holiday decor is my mantel decorations. Even if you don’t have a mantel, you could use the top of a bookshelf, dresser, or even a piano to bring some Christmas spirit into your home. The mantel is a great place to display some holiday cheer and I’ve pulled some inspiration from around our internet community to give you some great ideas to get started!

The Rustic Approach

A country Christmas is always a winner and can be so easy to achieve this time of year with evergreen branches, swags, and trees. Adding in pine cones and using burlap is an easy way to achieve your rustic look.

Sometimes a little greenery and citrus fruits can be the main focal point in a mantel design. The bright colors play really nicely with presents wrapped in coordinating colors. Who ever said Christmas can only be communicated through red and green!

Red and white are classic colors when it comes to Christmas. Mixing and matching accessories in this color palette clearly says Merry Christmas. Of course, the classic use of a mantel to display and hang stockings is a given with a classic approach to using a mantel. The great thing about this approach is that you can mix and match anything from bowls, sculptures, wreaths, flowers, and trees just as long as they are in the same color family!

Celebrating the fun and child-like wonder of Christmas can be just as inviting for any holiday mantel. Bright colored ornaments gathered in oversized glass vases are perfect to add height to any mantel. Wrapping picture frames in bright colors to look like presents is a great way to bring the decor up onto the wall. The key with this kind of display is pure whimsy and fun!

Whatever your style, you can get started with your holiday decor now and especially at stores like Old Time Pottery. You can let you imagination run wild with delight over the ornaments, garlands, and thousands of other holiday decor around every corner. My advice: don’t wait; ponder these ideas, get excited, and then get decorating!
