There are many challenges when trying to fit things in a small space. I like to go vertically with my design. Using the wall space is important. Organization is also very important.
Today’s challenge is creating a work space in a college dorm. I looked for one versatile and useful piece to be a workstation. I wanted to make a big impact in a small space.
I found a ladder type shelf at Old Time Pottery. Did you know they have tons of school supplies and furniture? I needed a shelf for paper and supplies. I also need something to organize papers and important notes and homework.
There was a tiny space on the side of the desk that this piece fit in perfectly. I found some navy organizing bins to place on the shelf. There was enough room for these baskets and more. All the paper and school folders sit perfectly in the spot. The laptop and printer will fit on and under the desk.
This shelf is all wood so you can put hooks and nails in it for more hanging space.
I like to put personal messages and inspirational quotes in and around the work area. I hammered a sign to the top with a funny saying and post-it note for the most important messages like “Call Mom”!
The shutter top to this holds so many things. I added a clip for more storage.
Caffeine for the late night cramming. Love this mug from Old Time Pottery “Coffee makes it possible to get out of bed, chocolate makes it worthwhile.” I need one of these!!
When not in use it holds extra pens, highlighters and markers.
The bottom shelf took care of school books homework folders and more supplies. There’s the chocolate to make things worthwhile!
I am amazed of the amount of Old Time Pottery supplies I managed to fit on the one piece. Everything needed for this to be a productive space.  Color and pattern lend to a pleasing design in the room.
There is even room for a backpack or purse to hang on the side.
Using vertical space makes a big impact in a small space.
For all your school needs Old Time Pottery makes a big impact  on savings too.
This piece of furniture was affordable and when the school year is over it collapses down flat for easy storage. You can also use this in many other areas like a bathroom or side of bed. Use your imagination. Make the most out of your small space.
Most of all enjoy the school year and keep it stress free!
