You can make your own tissue paper gift jars for any occasion but they are really fun during the holidays. Grab fun themed tissue paper and jars from Old Time Pottery then make these in minutes. Fill with fun gifts for Christmas or any other holiday. Trust me this is one super simple craft project that anyone can tackle.
To make your own gift jars you will need:
- Tissue paper (you can find a wide variety at Old Time Pottery)
- Mason jar in any size (we used a pint size version)
- Decoupage
- Gift tag
- Ribbon
- Stamps and ink if desired to add some flair to your gift tag
Coat your entire jar in decoupage medium. We actually used a sparkle decoupage that has the slightest bit of glitter already in the formula.
Set the jar down onto the center of the back of a piece of tissue paper. Begin by pulling the sides up then cutting down them. Trim away excess so you are left with just enough to slightly overlap when covering the jar.
Finish pulling up the tissue paper strips and smooth down well on the sides with your hands. Trim away excess from the top.
Apply a layer of decoupage over the entire outside of the jar and leave upside down to dry completely before adding any gift.
In the meantime, find or make a gift tag that will work with your gift. We just stamped “to” and “from” on a plain white tag with ink and stamps.
Once the jars are dry, the lid should still fit on just fine. We used a scrap piece of paper cut into a circle to cover up the jar lid as well. Then just tie on that gift tag with a bit of ribbon.
You can fill your jar with any gift but candy, cookies, caramels, and more work great. Give these gift jars to neighbors, friends, teachers, and so much more.
Grab your supplies to make your own tissue wrapped gift jars today. Everyone will love this small token of your appreciation….all wrapped up in a gorgeous jar that they can display in their home!
Love how they look!! Do you know if I can I use ModPodge instead of decoupage medium to add the papers?
